Mission and Objectives of the Department

 

The mission of the Department, in accordance with its establishing Presidential Decree, is: "to train Home Economics executives to meet the modern requirements of education and the requirements of family organization and management" (Articles 2 and 3, Presidential Decree 206, Greek Government Gazette 97/12-6-1992).

Based on its mission, the main objectives of the Department are as follows:

  1. To promote scientific knowledge and research on subjects related to the domestic economy, the organization and operation of the family, as well as the management of the natural and cultural environment.

  2. To educate students in all areas of economic activity so that they can make use of social, natural and cultural resources, contributing to economic growth and promote quality of life. The concept of quality of life covers the whole spectrum of living conditions and activities of family members (income, financial management, consumer behavior, professional activity, household, nutrition, environment, interpersonal and social relationships) and their interactions, which help to ensure their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

  3. To provide students with psycho-pedagogical training for the acquisition of teaching and pedagogical competence, which will render the graduates of the Department able to undertake, in public or private schools of secondary education, teaching courses related to the subject areas of the Department.
